Generac Guardian and Generac Protector Standby Generators

Air-cooled home standby generators fit most residential applications from small to large homes. During an outage, they can power everything from lights to central air conditioners, including refrigerators and freezers, sump pumps, and medical equipment. A Generac Standby Generator can power the entire home using a service entrance rated Automatic Transfer Switch (ATS), or up 16 pre-selected circuits with a Load Center ATS.

Liquid-cooled generators feature a cooling system like those in automobiles. A pump circulates liquid coolant through the engine to absorb heat and through a radiator cooled by a fan to remove the heat. They cool themselves more efficiently than air-cooled engines, making them more suitable in extreme heat climates or applications that require more power. With more available power, they supply larger homes and estates or homes in hot environments.

Completely Automatic, Generac Standby Generators run on Natural Gas or Propane (LP) and permanently connect to the home’s electrical system using an Automatic Transfer Switch (ATS.) Once installed, they don’t require setup before use and will start and operate in any weather, including triple-digit heat waves and major storms like hurricanes, ice-storms, blizzards, and severe thunderstorms.

Whole House models come with the 200-Amp SE-Rated Automatic Transfer Switch. The SE-Rated ATS installs between the electric utility meter and the main circuit-breaker panel. When an outage strikes, it disconnects the utility lines and connects the generator. When the utility restores power, the ATS reverses the process and disconnects the generator before reconnecting the utility lines. Transfer from utility power to generator power and back is automatic.

The 200-Amp Automatic Transfer Switch complies the National Electrical Code for homes with a main circuit breaker rated at 200 Amps or less. Homes with two main panels may require a second ATS.

Generac has the nationwide best-selling home standby generator, the Guardian 22-kilowatt 70432. Most efficient air-cooled home generator available costs less per kilowatt than any other standby generator in its class. Other models with a whole-house ATS include the Generac 18kW and the Generac 14kW.

Also available—models with a 100-Amp 16-circuit load center ATS like the Generac 10kW Generator and Generac 14kW Generator. Homeowners can also purchase any Generac 10kW to 24kW Generator without a transfer switch as a replacement generator or for special configurations
