As a tribute to our country, and in recognition of one of the most significantly historic and memorable events that has shaped our modern lives, let’s celebrate the discovery of America – Columbus Day, this October 10th!
Originally Christopher Columbus’ arrival to America was on October 12, 1492 but is celebrated on the second Monday of each October. As we know, Columbus Day is a controversial debate on many accounts. Columbus was traditionally given the title of the first European to sail to the Americas. It is often said that he is the discoverer of a new world…
More recently, there has evidence that the first Europeans to sail across the Atlantic were in fact Viking explorers from Scandinavia. In addition, the land was already populated by indigenous peoples, who had ‘discovered’ the Americas thousands of years before any white Europeans.
Like many Americans, perhaps you are planning a BBQ, picnic, or outdoor gathering this Columbus day… If you are too far from public or residential power sources, a portable generator may be the ideal solution for you and your friends to enjoy the occasion complete with electric lights and music!
Regardless of who found the Americas, it is a time to celebrate our country, our land, our culture, our freedom, and our people. Throughout the United States there are bound to be countless celebrations including church services, parades, and other large events. Some of the more noteworthy celebrations will take place in San Francisco and New York.
Happy Columbus Day to all!
