Tropical Storm Arthur is the first named storm of the 2026 Atlantic Hurricane Season. It began as scattered thunderstorms moving off the Yucatan Peninsula into the Bay of Campeche. It had little chance of development before moving inland.

The system re-emerged off the Texas Coast. With a high chance of further development, the National Hurricane Center designated the storm Potential Tropical Cyclone One.

Tropical Storm Arthur Key Messages

This morning, June 17, 2026, the system developed into a tropical storm. The NHC named it ‘Arthur’ the first name from this year’s list of tropical cyclone names.

1. Arthur brings potentially life-threatening flash flooding and urban flooding through Friday across southern Louisiana, southwestern Georgia, and the Florida Panhandle, with possible flooding near the Upper Texas Coast. Ongoing heavy rainfall could prolong the flood threat into the weekend.
2. Tropical Storm Force Winds are forecast along the Upper Texas and Louisiana Coasts from High Island to Morgan City. A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect.
3. Expect minor to moderate coastal flooding along portions of the Upper Texas and Louisiana Coastline through today.
