From the time the National Hurricane Center issues a watch for your area to the forecast time of landfall, there are between 36 and 48 hours to prepare before the hurricane arrives, and the wind and water will arrive well before the hurricane makes landfall. With so much to do ahead of the storm, it's much faster and less stressful if your plan is in place and the supplies you need are in a kit that you can take with you or use while you weather the storm. It's also less likely you will forget something important.
